Jakarta, 28 February 2024 – Telkomsel has once again received international recognition at the Global TD-LTE Initiative (GTI) Awards 2024 in Barcelona, Spain, on February 27, 2024, in the category of Innovative 5G Service and Application for its innovative solution in maximizing the utilization of the latest 5G broadband network through the first-ever 5G Telesurgery Robotic use case in Indonesia. This global appreciation bestowed upon Telkomsel during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024 marks the second consecutive year of winning awards in the same category, demonstrating its tangible commitment in line with Telkomsel's vision to become the best digital telco service provider in the region by consistently delivering a variety of innovative solutions to customers and industries through the utilization of cutting-edge technology.

Indra Mardiatna, Director of Network at Telkomsel, stated, "Telkomsel expresses appreciation for the Innovative 5G Service and Application award from the Global TD-LTE Initiative Awards 2024, recognizing our initiative and innovation demonstrated through the trial and demonstration of utilizing the leading 5G broadband network in the 5G Robotic Telesurgery use case with RSUP Dr. Hasan Sadikin Bandung and RSUP Dr. Sardjito Yogyakarta. This award further underscores Telkomsel's commitment, inspired by Indonesia's spirit, to consistently create breakthroughs using 5G broadband networks to deliver services and solutions that exceed customer expectations. Moving forward, Telkomsel will continue to utilize the latest 5G broadband networks to create more solutions and innovations to improve service quality while promoting national progress."

Wong Soon Nam, Director of Planning & Transformation at Telkomsel, added, "We remain committed to driving positive change through sustainable digital transformation. We believe that technological innovation, as demonstrated by the 5G Robotic Telesurgery use case initiative, not only changes how we deliver services but also opens new opportunities to enhance the overall quality of life for society by supporting the healthcare industry revolution in Indonesia. Through this trial, we aim to support quality, efficient healthcare services accessible to everyone, regardless of distance."

The innovation through the initiative of the 5G Robotic Telesurgery use case is aimed at improving accessibility to healthcare services. It utilizes the latest technology to reach regions facing geographical challenges, such as Indonesia, the world's largest archipelagic country. The introduction of remote robotic surgery (telesurgery) enables surgeons to perform medical procedures on patients in different geographical areas in real-time. To bring this healthcare service innovation to fruition, Telkomsel collaborated with the government through the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia and successfully conducted the first trial and demonstration of 5G Robotic Telesurgery in Indonesia in May 2023. This trial coincided with the official visit of the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Indonesia, which included an agenda to strengthen synergy between Indonesia and Iran in the healthcare sector.

During the trial process connecting two hospitals approximately 350 kilometers apart, Telkomsel was responsible for ensuring the reliability of the 5G network infrastructure and specialized optical networks with point-to-point connections and multicast capabilities. This aim was to support the success of 5G Robotic Telesurgery with a high level of visual precision and ergonomic remote instrument accessibility. By leveraging large bandwidth and low latency in data control functions, real-time transfer of intra-abdominal images, and video communication, the risk of complications during surgery or recovery could be reduced. Meanwhile, Sina Robotics and Medical Innovators Co., Ltd., played a role in providing the telesurgery system for the 5G Robotic Telesurgery use case.

Telkomsel's 5G broadband connectivity enables further development in implementing the following digital technology use cases in the healthcare industry, including the evolution of surgical processes using robotic technology. By enhancing the capacity and capabilities of the current network infrastructure in hospitals, Telkomsel can offer a wide range of solutions and services to shape an integrated digital healthcare service experience and accelerate digital transformation across various medical service activities, from preliminary analysis to diagnostics, treatment, and recovery.

This award serves as a driving force for Telkomsel to deliver innovative solutions and leading services to all customers continuously. We hope innovation through the 5G Robotic Telesurgery use case will also catalyze further advancements in 5G technology within the healthcare industry and other sectors. We believe this can create broader opportunities for progress in the healthcare industry and other sectors contributing to Indonesia's development," Indra concluded.
