Telkomsel to invest in Gojek; influential collaboration of two national champions to accelerate country's digital transformation

JAKARTA, 17 November 2020 -- Gojek, Southeast Asia's leading mobile on-demand services and payments platform, today announced an investment from Telkomsel, Indonesia's leading network service provider and a subsidiary of Telkom Indonesia and Singtel. As leading Indonesian digital technology companies, the two homegrown champions will join forces in a strategic partnership that will grow the country’s mobile-first market and accelerate digital transformation. The value of the investment is USD150 million.

The Gojek platform and its services are used by millions of consumers and driver-partners, and hundreds of thousands of merchant-partners across Southeast Asia, while Telkomsel is Indonesia's largest mobile operator with over 170 million subscribers. As leaders in their respective fields, Telkomsel and Gojek will work together to strengthen services, drive innovation and improve user experience for consumers and small businesses in Indonesia.

The collaboration marks an expansion of Gojek and Telkomsel's multi-year partnership that has offered affordable data packages to Gojek driver-partners since 2018. It will open up a broad range of collaboration opportunities designed to capitalise on the combined scale of both businesses to reach millions of Indonesians throughout the archipelago.

Users of both platforms can look forward to multiple initiatives that provide greater convenience and benefits, such as innovative product offerings, and cost savings through joint promotions and product bundles. The companies will also collaborate on growing Indonesia's digital lifestyle sector and increasing the advertising technology solutions available to merchants of all sizes. In addition, they will work together to implement professional training programs for Telkomsel employees and share best practices in an effort to boost Indonesia's technology talent pool.
