In December 2025, Telkomsel officially initiated SIM card dematerialization program through a structured waste disposal and recycling activity, carried out in collaboration with PT Mukti Mandiri Lestari. The kick-off was marked by an official on-site event held on 15 December 2025 in Bekasi, where the physical destruction of obsolete SIM card inventory was conducted in a transparent and compliant manner, as part of the company’s commitment to sustainable operational practices.
The event brought together relevant internal stakeholders and authorized partners to ensure that the entire disposal process adhered to regulatory requirements and proper governance procedures. During the session, designated representatives oversaw the destruction of SIM card starter packs (kartu perdana) that had been written off (write-off/WO) and were no longer usable. The controlled process ensured traceability, accountability, and alignment with environmental and compliance standards.

In this initial phase, approximately 19 tons of SIM card waste were processed and responsibly disposed of. The materials handled in this program were strictly limited to obsolete, expired, or defective inventory from Telkomsel’s internal stock, ensuring that the initiative focused first on improving internal waste management practices. Waste generated directly from customer usage was not included at this stage.
The destruction process was designed not only to ensure compliance but also to support environmental objectives. By partnering with PT Mukti Mandiri Lestari as a certified waste management provider, Telkomsel ensured that waste materials were treated using appropriate methods, including segregation, recycling, and environmentally sound disposal of non-recoverable components. This approach minimizes the risk of environmental contamination and reduces the volume of waste ultimately sent to landfills.

This kick-off represents a significant milestone in Telkomsel’s broader SIM card dematerialization journey, which aims to reduce dependency on physical SIM cards over time while promoting more sustainable digital alternatives. At the same time, the initiative reflects Telkomsel’s commitment to circular economy principles by optimizing resource use and ensuring responsible end-of-life management for its products.
Moving forward, Telkomsel plans to build upon this foundation by exploring opportunities to expand the scope of the program. Through these continuous efforts, Telkomsel strengthens its contribution to environmental sustainability and supports Indonesia’s long-term waste reduction goals.
